“Sacher Torte” is probably the most famous chocolate cake in the world.
The cake was invented in 1832 by a young boy who was an apprentice in the kitchen of the Viennese “Hotel Sacher”.
The boy was just 16 years old, and had to substitute for the sick chef at Prince Metternich´s court, when he created the most famous chocolate cake in the world.

The fancy cake is coated with the finest chocolate, and filled with delicious apricot jam. The receipt of the original Sacher Torte is is a well-kept secret to this day. The original of the cake is only made in the “Hotel Sacher” and called “Original Sacher Torte”.

The original Sacher Torte is made exactly in the same way as in 1832.

The most special thing of the Sacher Torte is its sophisticated chocolate coating. The coating of the Sacher Torte consists of three high quality chocolate brands, who are manufactured exclusively for the original cake by different confectioners. The chocolate of the original Sacher Torte is not from Austria. Confectioners from the German city of Lübeck and Belgian chocolate makers are the suppliers of this kind of precious chocolate coating.
Every year more than 300.000 original Sacher cakes are manufactured, which takes 70 tons of chocolate.

“Hotel Sacher” in the centre of Vienna is the home of the “Original Sacher Torte”.

Inside the coffee house of the “Hotel Sacher”. There are you able to enjoy the original Sacher cake.

When she was much younger, my mother visited Vienna and enjoyed Sachertorte at Hotel Sacher. She’s always described how luscious it was. I look forward to tasting it there someday, too–now even more so after seeing all the pictures!
